Since 2002, Yamana has been working on a pilot scheme destined to set up a system of Social and Environmental Responsibility and fair trade applicable to the hand-made carpet sector in Afghanistan. The project aims to create an Afghan quality-label that will promote local businesses that are working to improve the social and environmental production conditions. Support for this economic sector will help to guarantee better pay and working conditions for craftsmen, including the poorest, and will encourage refugees to return and settle in the country.
